Sensory Processing Disorder

Sensory Processing Disorder

We had a good response from people, particularly through our Facebook page, about the image that accompanied our post on Dyspraxia.

As such, we have decided to look at another area that often causes some confusion, and can be hard to explain, Sensory Processing Disorder. The below infographic, from North Shore Pediatric, describes Sensory Processing Disorder in an exceptionally visual way, outlining how the senses take in information, process and then output this information. At OTFC we often see children who have difficulties with Sensory Processing and through a Sensory Integration framework, we work on ways to support how that sensory information is received and interpreted.

While Dyspraxia and Sensory Processing Disorder are more complicated than a simple ‘infographic’, these images provide a better insight into how such difficulties can impact on children and their learning.

If you feel your child is experiencing a number of the difficulties discussed above, please feel free to leave a comment or contact Occupational Therapy For Children on (08) 8410 4522
