CampEVOLVE Camp Facilitators
Two (2) OTFC Occupational Therapists will be leading each of the groups assisted by three (3) Final Year University Occupational Therapy Students. The OTFC OT’s will be involved in all aspects of organising each group’s Camp activities and individual camp participant’s overall experience. The ratio is 1 staff member to 2 children during the day. Once you register and a deposit is paid, the details of your group leaders will be forwarded to you.
Once the groups have been defined, your individual therapeutic activity schedule will be sent to you so you will be able to follow what your child’s movements are at any time. As much as we we will try to adhere to every camper’s individual schedule, we will also be led by the child so some activities may alter if we believe there is a therapeutic benefit in doing so. CampEVOLVE has been designed to optimise the group experience for every child. Support will be provided to facilitate peer interaction during camp activities. A portfolio of your child’s camp experience will be compiled during the Camp and presented to your child at the closing CampEVOLVE ceremony on the afternoon of Wednesday 11th October 2017.
What to expect at CampEVOLVE
OTFC Clients will have the opportunity to participate in an intensive three-day program to improve their sensory-motor skills and engage with their environment in a meaningful and purposeful way. Campers will be provided with opportunities to engage in a range of therapeutic activities throughout the day (and night); incorporating components of self-regulation unique to each child’s sensory diet in order to ensure successful individual and group participation. CampEVOLVE will have a significant functional focus for campers; as OT’s we like to enable children to be as independent as possible as appropriate for their age. CampEVOLVE will be physically and socially challenging and as a result campers will strive to develop their: Gross and fine motor skills, social skills including their ability to negotiate conflict, new friendships, ability to be be responsible and organised, confidence and functional capacity.
For Day Campers, the schedule at CampEVOLVE will include traditional camp activities as well as activities that are underpinned by the OTFC principles of practice such as: orienteering, nature walks, Messy Madness, Challenge Hill, Music/Art/Dance/Fitness Classes, T-shirt designing, swinging and balance games plus activities throughout the day that will have a therapeutic and functional foundation. Sensory diets for self-regulation will be adhered to throughout CampEVOLVE.
For Overnight Campers at CampEVOLVE, activities begin and end each day with an individualised functional routine. The day then continues with structured activities that are underpinned by the OTFC principles of practice such as: orienteering, nature walks, Messy Madness, Challenge Hill, Music/Art/Dance/Fitness Classes, T-shirt designing, swinging and balance games plus activities throughout the day that will have a therapeutic and functional foundation. Sensory diets for self-regulation will be adhered to throughout CampEVOLVE.
The overnight camper’s activities will be interspersed with unstructured activity and there will also be a break out space for campers at different times who need individualised sensory therapeutic input. Meals, rest periods and camp fires will be carefully structured to maximise the therapeutic value for each camper.
Cost of CampEVOLVE
The cost of the Camps
Deposit to accompany your CampEVOLVE Application is $300. This deposit is the cost to OTFC per child of using the camp facilities and therefore cannot be billed to any payment schemes. The remainder of the camp fee is a therapy fee and Michelle will be happy to discuss this with you (see Funding Questions). Deposits will not be processed until your child has been accepted as a camper at CampEVOLVE.
Once your child has been accepted, CampEVOLVE fees will be due in 3 equal instalments. If you would like Michelle to set up a payment plan for you, please let her know when you submit your application. More information regarding billing will be provided to you after you have been accepted as a camper at CampEVOLVE.
If you have Medicare funding (EPC/FPS) it can be utilised for CampEVOLVE – we can claim 3 therapy sessions for you.
If you have NDIS Funding please speak with Michelle to discuss how the details of your plan can be utilised for CampEVOLVE.
If you have any other funding questions, please do not hesitate to email Michelle (CampEVOLVE@otfc.com.au)
Sleeping Arrangements for the Overnight Program
The overnight groups are divided into groups by gender. Each group will be split into 5 students and will have an OTFC OT and a student OT (could be male or female) sleeping in their room. Each room has its own ensuite attached to it. This ratio will ensure the safety and well-being of all camp participants are maintained at all times.
Camp Food Menu
All meals at CampEVOLVE will be catered for by the wonderful people at Ash&Kel’s Kitchen (www.ashkelskitchen.com.au) who have developed a wonderfully nutritious and yummy menu for the children and will accommodate all dietary requirements upon request.
